Exile on Main Street – National Day of Action for refugees

4ZZZ has been providing independent news and current affairs since its inception in 1975. The newsroom is entirely volunteer based and provides Zedlines bulletins on the hour each weekday from 8-11AM, plus a dedicated one hour news and current-affairs program, Brisbane Line, from 12-1PM on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

National Day of Action for refugees follows with a protest this Sunday at Kangaroo PointProtesters were emotional at a National Day of Action for refugees outside a detention centre in Kangaroo Point last Sunday. They gathered in solidarity with 120 refugees and asylum seekers detained inside Kangaroo Point Central Hotel, who have been protesting their conditions from the hotel balcony for months. 

​​​​​​​Some activists remain at the site on a 24/7 Community blockade of the detention centre to prevent detainees from being removed to BITA, a higher-security facility. Full story and photography by 4ZZZ Reporter Lillian Rangiah here.

​​​​​​​This Sunday, June 21 Refugee Solidarity Brisbane / Meanjin and Socialist Alternative Brisbane are leading a peaceful rally to negotiate action and protest the cruelty of refugees in detainment.

Ahead of the rally this Sunday, Radio Reversal crossed live to some of the Protesters currently partaking in the Community Blockade at Kangaroo Point.
