For the past three years, the Queensland Government has been complicit in the genocide in Gaza and has done everything it could to obstruct justice for the Palestinian people, even going so far as to accuse protest organisers of antisemitism. This is particularly ironic given that some of the people charged are themselves Jewish.
Far worse than this, the government has then turned around and attacked the people who built a mass movement against the genocide. The Qld government is threatening to incarcerate them and to hit them with enormous legal costs while they defend their democratic right to protest crimes against humanity.
Justice for Palestine Magan-djin has organised a High Court challenge on behalf of people who are being prosecuted under the Queensland Criminal Code. The challenge seeks to annul the Fighting Antisemitism and Keeping Guns out of the Hands of Terrorists and Criminals Amendment Act 2026, which received Royal Assent on 11 March 2026.

A media conference will be held by Justice for Palestine (JFP) in Brisbane Tuesday, 1pm 28 July to announce details of the High Court legal challenge against the repressive laws of the LNP State Government which prohibit two phrases, “from the river to the sea” and “globalise the intifada”, from being spoken or displayed. The action is being brought on behalf of Palestinians and Palestine activists who have been arrested under the new laws.
Most of the plaintiffs, joined by JFP supporters, will attend this event to highlight the importance of retaining Queensland’s right to free speech and expression, in light of the ongoing genocide by Israel.
