From Australia to Cuba with Love: Day 19. End AUKUS! No U.S. bases in Australia! Free Palestine! Let Cuba Live!
A feisty contingent of activists joined in a protest at the annual lunch by the American Chamber of Commerce at which the Queensland Premier was the invited guest speaker.
Speakers condemned the AUKUS agreement, US involvement in military operations around the world, the subordination of the needs of Australian people to the military-industrial complex. We also said ‘End the U.S. blockade of Cuba’ and ‘Let Cuba Live!’

Please note that the Venezuelan government has repeatedly stated that it supports ending the U.S. embargo on Cuba and says its absence from the recorded vote was solely because it had lost its General Assembly voting rights over unpaid UN dues, not because of any change in its policy toward Cuba.
Tonight I went for a walk along the Brisbane River reflecting on the the context of our campaign this, our fifth year of collectively travelling the distance between Australia and Cuba. While each year we have advocated for an end to the blockade, this year, with the heightened tension due to the threats by Trump and Rubio, and the blocking of oil supplies, ‘From Australia to Cuba with Love’ takes on an added significance. Our modest contribution, aiming on alleviating the energy crisis for a community home for children without parents, is part of an international mobilisation of support for Cuba, in defiance of the arrogance of the US administration. Our determination to achieve our goal draws on the inspirational determination of the Cuban people to stand firm. There’s a lot at stake. Let’s stay strong!
