WHY WE RIDE
The Big Ride for Palestine Australia is an initiative by supporters of the Palestinian people that combines a love of cycling with practical solidarity and raising awareness. We do this with our partner organisation Union Aid Abroad (APHEDA).
We want to draw attention to the Palestinian people’s rightful cause for freedom, the brutal genocide and military destruction of Gaza, and the illegal rampages by settlers in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. The movement in solidarity with the Palestinian people is a global movement with roots going back to the Nakba.
We raise money principally for Ma’an Development Center in Palestine and the Palestinian Women’s Humanitarian Organisation in Lebanon.
Both organisations support youth-led initiatives and are committed to meeting the diverse needs of young people. Their programs help young people develop a better understanding of risk awareness and social solidarity, provide safe spaces, and address essential physical needs, including access to water and sanitation.
In this way, our fundraising is not simply about immediate material assistance. It also supports the social needs of Palestinian communities — helping young people and their families build solidarity, dignity and community in Gaza and in the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.
Over the years, we have also raised funds for a school in Hebron. In 2021, we raised around $50,000, which was directed to educational programs for young people in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.
Over ten years, the Big Ride for Palestine Australia has raised more than $300,000 in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
