Unionists for Palestine

Unionists for Palestine Queensland organising meeting

6pm Monday 23 March

Pig’n’Whistle

Cnr Melbourne & Merivale Sts, South Brisbane

(There is two hour free parking at Coles and Woolworths five minutes walk down the road.)

Agenda items include:

1)     Justice for Palestine Magandjin is asking organisations to sign on to a public statement to build the campaign against the Crisafulli’s clamp down on free speech. Unionists for Palestine is well placed to seek union support. Dozens of organisations have already signed on to the public statement.

2)     A second agenda item relates to an email sent by Unionists for Palestine to you and other unionists earlier this week for the purpose of broadening support for the campaign against Crisafulli’s new laws. Things are gathering pace, both the growing sense of outrage in the community and the enforcement of the law by police. Union involvement was critical to smashing Bjelke-Petersen’s ban on street marches in the 1970s, and will be critical to the success of the current campaign. You can follow up earlier emails with discussions with individual unionists about how they can broaden support.

3)     A draft leaflet is being prepared for use at the Palm Sunday rally. Tom will be seeking the meeting’s feedback to finalise the draft.

Union Aid Abroad APHEDA Emergency Appeal

Solidarity with Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon

On 5 March, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) issued evacuation orders, displacing over one million people across southern Lebanon and suburbs of Beirut, including the entire population of the Burj al-Barajneh Palestinian refugee camp.

This camp is where Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA’s long standing program with the Palestinian Women’s Humanitarian Organisation (PWHO) delivers support for early childhood education and women’s empowerment.

PWHO is key support to their community, and at their request, Union Aid Abroad is launching an appeal to support emergency humanitarian relief work which will help camp residents survive the current displacement.

You can support PWHO’s efforts by donating to Union Aid Abroad’s emergency appeal in solidarity with Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.
