Vintage Reds

Following our successful outing last year to the city we are returning to town!

When: Thursday 3rd October at 10am

Where: 4th Floor, 300 Adelaide Street, Brisbane City

Sally Gunner, Branch Secretary of the CPSU (Community and Public Sector Union) has again invited us to hold our meeting at their union rooms in the city.

Last year Sally spoke to us of the trials her union has faced in recent years, such as the demonisation of public servants, the politicisation of the public service and the consequences of contracting out and privatisation.

At this meeting we will ask Sally the following questions:

How is the re- building of the Public Service going in terms of numbers and skills?

Has there been any progress reducing outsourcing of policy and of services e.g. CES?

What are the current CPSU campaigns e.g. CSIRO?

How can Vintage Reds assist?

Regarding the CSIRO, this is what we know so far, according to Susan Tonks from the CSIRO Staff Association (extract from her talk at National Retired Unionists Meeting (RUN).

CEO Doug Hilton has announced a 25% cut to CSIRO budget

375-500 jobs are expected to go.

CSIRO is Australia’s national science agency and its research and is needed

more than ever with the challenges of pandemics, climate change and AI.

Downgrading the CSIRO is a backward step more familiar with LNP

governments

CSIRO staff have delivered an open letter to Minister Ed Husic requesting his

urgent intervention to stop the widespread job cuts that are being rolled out

across their organisation and save the CSIRO.

As retired unionists we support and stand with our CPSU comrades in their campaigns.

When: Thursday 3rd October at 10am

Where: 4th Floor, 300 Adelaide Street, Brisbane City

We look forward to seeing you there.
