‘Not our law’ campaign

As far as I can tell, there are three strategies at play regarding the government’s anti-free speech amendments to the Queensland Criminal Code (Fighting Antisemitism). We are yet to see enforcement of the second part of these laws (Keeping Guns out of the Hands of Terrorists and Criminals). I don’t think this campaign can be separated from the current war on Palestine and it’s Neighbors in West Asia. These laws are a device to stop protest against a widening war conducted by the United States. This is in part because of the economic effects eg ⛽️ fuel prices and shortages.

1. Organised Mass defiance … everyone chants from the river to the sea Palestine must be free in a large rally opening ourselves up to mass arrest.
2. Creative defiance … one part of the demonstration chants from the river and the other part responds to the sea
3. ad hoc defiance … individuals chant from the river to the sea at smaller pickets and rallies.

We urge unions to sign on to this campaign as should peak bodies and NGOs like Union Aid Abroad (APHEDA).

Justice for Palestine Magan-djin/Brisbane Queensland has passed laws that criminalise Palestinians and their supporters for speaking about genocide. These laws were not designed to keep Queenslanders safe. These absurd and dangerous laws were designed to silence Palestinian voices and protect a foreign government from criticism while it commits genocide.

Justice for Palestine Magan-Djin/Brisbane is the Palestinian-led organisation in Brisbane at the centre of this fight. Any serious opposition to these laws needs Palestinian voices at its heart – and we need allies around us.

When we work together we become something harder to ignore and harder to dismiss.

We have drafted a joint statement below opposing these laws. To co-sign, please fill in your organisations details below.

We, the undersigned, declare our support for the NOT OUR LAW campaign:

The Fighting Antisemitism and Keeping Guns Out of the Hands of Terrorists and Criminals Amendment Act 2026 is an attack on the democratic rights of all Queenslanders.

We oppose all forms of racism, including antisemitism and Islamophobia. We believe that a safe community is one where freedoms and civil liberties are protected, not criminalised for short-term political gain. These laws criminalise legitimate political speech. They were passed without adequate public consultation and Palestinian voices were excluded. They have already been used to arrest Australians, putting our citizens’ safety at risk.

Any serious challenge to these laws must centre Palestinian voices – because Palestinians are the ones being silenced, and Palestinian human rights is what this government is trying to make unspeakable.

We are calling on Premier Crisafulli to:
– Immediately repeal the sections of this bill that restrict political speech
– Drop all charges against those arrested under these laws
– Commit to no further arrests under this legislation

We are calling on the federal Labor government to:
– Publicly oppose Queensland’s criminalisation of Palestinian advocacy
– Stop shielding Israel from accountability at the UN and in Australian foreign policy

We are building a broad alliance to fight these laws through every means available – legal challenges, political pressure, and mass mobilisation.

On April 18, Queenslanders will come together under the banner of NOT OUR LAWS to remind Crisafulli who he actually answers to.
