The Queensland government’s banning of “from the river to the sea” is a racist trope against Palestinians and their organisations (including Justice for Palestine Magan-djin). The government is attempting to silence Palestinian voices by claiming that:
1. Palestinian national aspirations from the river Jordan to the Mediterranean sea are motivated by antisemitic hatred, as opposed to the natural inclination to be free from Israeli occupation, domination and genocide.
2. Palestinians are inherently violent or predisposed to violence because their resistance took the form of an intifada (Arabic for ‘shaking off’). See banning ‘Gobalise the Intifada‘ in Fighting Antisemitism and Keeping Guns out of the Hands of Terrorists and Criminals Amendment Act 2026.
The government legislation relies on racist and Islamophobic stereotypes against Muslims. And, thereby, they are acting in a manner that violates fundamental rights to freedom of expression and equality. People particularly healthcare professionals may wish to read the following analysis:
