“I believe there’s enough people in this country that is … my task is that … to convince at least 10 million people to make an objective decision and support a treaty, when I started, we started and when we say we, we’ve got embassies right around the country. And we’ve got land councils that we’ve had a working group for ages.” – Wayne ‘Coco’ Wharton 26 April 2023.
Uncle Wayne ‘Coco’ Wharton says he does not think The Voice referendum will get up. I think there will be a ‘Yes’ voice despite places in Australia like Queensland where there will be a ‘No’ vote.
Ironic, because this is where most blackfellas live.
Listen to what Wayne Wharton had to say at a panel discussion at Macquarie Uni on 26 April 2023. Speakers included Lynda-June Coe, Vanessa Turnball-Roberts, Leanne Holt, Uncle Wayne “Coco” Wharton, and Duncan Ivison.

“I’m a bit of an optimist. I believe in you know One of the first books I ever read was Xavier Herbert’s and Nancy Kernot (?) and I couldn’t read until I repeated grade 9 the second time. I just wanted to get a gun and shoot everybody. That is the way I felt. Much in the way kids feel at Alice Springs or Townsville. These young people. When I was a young man all I felt was that these people had stolen my inheritance, put my uncle’s in their concentration camps, put my brothers in jail and I just wanted to grab a gun and shoot them.” – Wayne “Coco” Wharton.
