The US/Isreal war in West Asia is growing. Prime minister Albanese announced assistance on Tuesday morning (10 March 2026) after talks with the UAE’s president, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, last week and US president Donald Trump overnight. Australia is sending Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) that are fired from fighter aircraft such as F-16s, F-15s, F-35s, or similar aircraft operated by UAE. This answers a call by the United States administration. Australia does not have a trading partnership or a defence agreement with the UAE . Our concern is that there is no guarantee that the U.S. and Israel, whose inventory of missiles is depleted, will not use these missiles themselves or get the UAE to do so on their behalf.
Boeing kills
Prime Minister Albanese also announced that Australia would be sending Boeing wedge-tail aircraft to assist in surveillance against Iran.
Since February 28 2026, US/Israel has attacked Iran, Lebanon, Iraq, and Palestine including carpet bombing of Tehran and suburbs of Beirut after the US administration assassinated Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
David Shoebridge, the Greens senator, is opposed to the deployment of Boeing Wedgetail aircraft and missiles to UAE: “Every military asset Labor sends to the Gulf frees up US and Israeli assets to continue the illegal attacks on Iran.”
“This troop deployment is directly contrary to Australia’s national interest, it places Australian personnel directly in harm’s way when the UAE is not an ally or a critical trading partner.”
“This request for Australian troops may well have been sent from the Gulf, but it originated in Washington.”
The Australian governments have backed every United States war in the region for the past 50 years. A shameful record of hasbara lies and deceit.
