Palestine: Educate agitate organise

It is often maintained that the slogan ‘From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’ expresses a genocidal and antisemitic intention. But this is generally not the case. On the contrary, the slogan has historically been used to articulate a wide variety of political strategies for Palestinian liberation. – Amos Goldberg, Professor of Holocaust History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

About 120 people attended a public meeting organised by Justice for Palestine Magan-djin 🇵🇸 at the Electrical Trades Union Building last night to work out a way of defying the laws against free speech. Dinner was provided by the organisation.

At the meeting we listened attentively to two lawyers, Anna from Action Ready and Rouba, a Palestinian Australian lawyer. They both gave an excellent rundown on the ‘antisemitism’ legislation that bans ‘From xxx xxxxx xx xxx xxx, Palestine will be free’ and ‘ globalise xxx intixxxx’. Parliament has also banned a number of symbols show below, many of which I have never seen before. Nor do I know what they are about. I have never heard ‘globalise xxx intixxxx‘ chanted in Brisbane.

Anna and Rouba

There was mention of two students for Palestine being arrested earlier in the day by Queensland police under the new laws that received Royal Assent only on Monday.

Leaflet handed out by students for Palestine

Rouba, speaking as a Palestinian warned against an organisation behind Students for Palestine for going out and getting arrested while many people in the Palestinian community are feeling under threat and are afraid of what the laws can do to their community.

Palestinian families have been attending rallies in solidarity with people suffering a genocide in Gaza for the past two years because of Israel’s genocide against Rouba’s people.

Liam Parry the first person to be arrested for saying a prohibited slogan. Liam spoke at a rally at Speakers Corner outside the Queensland Parliament organised by students for Palestine.

I have viewed the video published by The Guardian believe that Liam Parry has an excellent chance of defeating the charge of speaking a prohibited slogan, from the xxx 2 the x x.

There is an excellent case for Liam to argue that his speech falls under the exception that it was for an educational purpose. I say this because it was only two days ago that the legislation was given Royal Assent and that he was speaking to an audience of students outside the gates of the Queensland University of Technology and, even though he spoke the prohibited expression, Liam explained what it meant.

Later in the evening, a member of another group came up to me and criticized both Rouba and Justice for Palestine, claiming that they are a top-down organisation. He supported the organizers behind the student demonstration. His critique was that Justice for Palestine did not allow for strategic input from others. He said that he had attended some of the meetings and tried to get proposals for demonstrations but claimed he was not listened to.

Earlier the MC had pointed out that Justice for Palestine Magan-djin organised the second largest demonstration ever held in Brisbane against the genocide. This occurred in August 2025. This was only matched by the huge demonstration against the United States war on Iraq in 2003 that the Australian government supported. This led to more than a million people dead in Iraq and many babies and children with deformities as a result of depleted uranium.

Sadly, huge mobilisations around the Western world like the one in Brisbane did not lead to an end of the war, which dragged on for years afterwards and which was supported by second and third waves of American intervention under President Obama.

So, too, has the genocide continued in Gaza for two and a half years with no end in sight.

Defy the ban on Palestine

At the end of the meeting five people volunteered to do leafleting in their local community to Shut Down Ferra, an arms manufacturer in Tingalpa complicit in the genocide in Gaza.

Banned Symbols

What do they mean? Most of them appear to be in Arabic. I have no idea what the Australian government is doing. Perhaps the government is generating racist AI symbols.

People haven’t seen the symbols yet because the Parliament hasn’t got around to putting them in the Gazette or in the regulations. See https://workersbushtelegraph.com.au/2026/03/10/slogans-and-symbols-banned-in-queensland/

Perhaps in his intro, in light of the anti-semitism laws, Liam could have said that he was attempting to let people know what the prohibited slogan meant.

  2. Gaza food prices soar as border closures deepen shortages amid Iran war
Families in Gaza are buying whatever they can while supplies last, fearing that food available today may not be there tomorrow.
    by Al Jazeera Staff
Gaza faces worsening food shortages and soaring prices as regional conflicts and border closures restrict the flow of aid and goods. Essential items like vegetables and cooking oil have become scarce or unaffordable, with only around 200 aid trucks entering daily—far below the required 600. The situation has strained the already fragile aid system, impacting hospitals, water supply, and sanitation. Aid agencies warn that unless access improves, food security gains from recent months could be reversed, deepening the humanitarian crisis.
