We post this article from this week’s COURIER MAI, a Murdoch owned paper sold throughout Queensland. The fantasists at the paper claim that it is the Palestinian movement and their slogans that have caused attacks on Jewish people. The Courier Mail made no pretence to seek the views of the main Brisbane organisation, Justice for Palestine Magan-djin, opposing the genocide in Palestine . Ed., 9 February 2026.

New laws make Queensland first state to ban ‘from the river to the sea’
If passed, Queensland’s new laws will have tougher measures to curb terrorist symbols with 13 Nazi, Hamas and Islamic symbols set to be banned alongside the already illegal Nazi swastika and the ISIS flag.
Queensland will become the first state to outlaw the inflammatory phrase “from the river to the sea” under sweeping reforms to crackdown on anti-Semitism.
Reciting or the publication of “globalise the intifada”, displaying Nazi, Hamas and other terror symbols will also be banned under the new laws set to be introduced to parliament next week.

The legislation is part of a suite of reforms to be tabled in the first sitting week of the year after a terrorist attack in December saw 15 innocent people killed at a celebration of the Jewish holiday Hanukkah at Bondi Beach.
Queenslanders who display hate symbols, recite terrorist slogans, harass or cause damage at a place of worship could face up to seven years in prison under the proposed changes.
Premier David Crisafulli said the legislation was about drawing “a clear line” to protect Queenslanders.
“We called this out from the beginning, we said we’d act, and through this legislation, we are delivering a strong and considered response,” he said.
“This is about drawing a clear line – and stamping out the embers of hatred that were allowed to burn unchecked for too long – to ensure we protect Queenslanders.
“The Jewish community has been clear: Queensland needs stronger legislation backed by real enforcement to drive out anti-Semitism, and that is exactly what we are delivering.”
A new offence with a maximum penalty of two years in prison, prohibiting the public distribution, publication, public display or public recitation of the phrases “globalise the intifada” and “from the river to the sea” to cause menace, harassment or offence will be introduced.
Premier David Crisafulli said the Anti-Semitism legislation was about drawing “a clear line” to protect Queenslanders.

Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies President Jason Steinberg welcomed the reforms, which he said send a clear message that anti-Semitism and hate have no place in this state.
“This Bill moves beyond words and delivers real, practical protections for our community and for all people targeted by hate,” he said.
“This is not only a welcome and necessary step for Jewish people, it is vital for rebuilding the confidence we have lost as hatred has run rampant.”
Following the Bondi attack, NSW Premier Chris Minns quickly introduced tough hate speech and gun reform – including the proposal to ban inflammatory phrases.
But a parliamentary committee recommended only banning the chant “globalise the intifada when used as an “incitement of violence”.
They further recommended “from the river to the sea” should not be outlawed because its meaning is “contested”.
Gun reform will also be part of the agenda next week after Police Minister Dan Purdie and Ms Frecklington explored options to tighten gun laws over the holidays.
The government has previously said the laws will crack down on “crooks and terrorists” who have access to guns.
Queensland has rejected participating in Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s gun buyback scheme, with Mr Crisafulli saying it did not progress anti-Semitism and hate.
