 Urgent appeal for Palestine Donate “My world literally came tumbling down.” – Ibrahim Muhtadi, Jewellery Designer, Gaza, 11 October 2023 Like many in Australia and around the world, we have been in shock, awaiting word from our Palestinian partners in Gaza as to their safety. Our volunteer Committee members have been extremely busy with response activities in their own cities and spaces over the past week. We have been inundated with messages of solidarity from you, our supporters, and with online orders and purchases as people try to find their own ways to respond to the horrendous events taking place in Gaza and across Palestine. These non-profit organisations work tirelessly assisting children with disabilities, refugee women and their families. Two of our three partners in Gaza have been bombed with premises damaged or destroyed. Many people have lost their homes, loved ones and sustained injuries. Communication with our partners is difficult as they have little to no internet or phone connection and are under constant bombardment and airstrikes. We are appealing for donations which we can forward to the Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children in Gaza, to help them provide urgent humanitarian needs of their communities – food, water, medicine, blankets. Just $50 can supply one week’s food for a family. Any amount, no matter how small, will help. For the month of October, all donations to Palestine Fair Trade Australia will be directed to support the emergency appeal from our partner Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children, Gaza. We will reassess next month, however we anticipate that this appeal will continue. Please note that donations to Palestine Fair Trade Australia are NOT tax deductible. Unfortunately we do not fit the Australian Taxation Office criteria for tax deductible funds (Deductible Gift Recipient). Donate More news The UN Relief & Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) headquarters in Gaza, which houses our partner organisation, the Sulafa Women’s Embroidery Centre, was bombed on October 9th. As at October 18th, UNRWA reports that “At least 14 UNRWA staff and personnel have been killed since 7 October and nine staff have been injured. The actual number is likely to be much higher. These figures include only those that the Agency has been able to confirm.” Ibrahim Muhtadi, marketing manager at Atfaluna Crafts and our supplier of silver jewellery, has had his design office in Gaza City completely destroyed.
