Joe Geia sings Gurri Ngindin Narmi

You don’t hear much about Joe Geia these days but the man is a legend. He’s right up there with no fixed address and mop on the dropouts for capturing the spirit of our times from the end of the 20th century till today. His band is playing in Queen street mall this Wednesday 19th October 2022 at the Gathering, a space up near the top of the mall. It’s good to see such a talented artist get a gig from the Brisbane City council and Creative Nations. For mine Joe guy’s version of Gurri Ngindin Narmi, the welcome song of blackfellas in this part of the world, is amazing because he not only gives you the song and the spirit of it; but he also gives you the English translation which is important for non-indigenous people like myself to understand the warmth of Aboriginal people.

The Gathering in the Queen Street Mall every Wednesday 12-1pm. Happy to be back there next Wednesday 19th October with JOE GEIA BAND members Graham Moes on guitar and deadly bass Phill McKenna.
