Take action: tell Bill Gates to divest from Israel’s torture prisons #StopG4S
We’re writing to ask you to support an important campaign against G4S, the British private security company that helps the Israeli government to run prisons at which Palestinian political prisoners are detained and subjected to torture.
Right now, there are more than 5,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails, including 183 children. Human rights organisations have documented widespread torture, including of children, and Palestinians are often held without trial indefinitely.
In June 2013, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the largest private charitable foundation in the world, purchased shares in G4S worth $172m, making it one of the company’s biggest shareholders.
Through its holdings in G4S, the Gates Foundation is legitimising and profiting from Israel’s use of torture, mass incarceration and arbitrary arrest to discourage Palestinians from opposing Israel’s apartheid policies.
Along with more than 100 organisations from Palestine to Brazil to South Africa, we’re campaigning to call on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to divest from G4S in the build up to Palestinian prisoner’s day on April 17. Please support the campaign by taking signing the petition and sharing it. You can also support the campaign by taking the following steps:
1. Share the petition and send a Tweet to the Gates Foundation
Example Tweet: Tell the @Gatesfoundation to divest from Israel’s torture of Palestinians www.addameer.org/gatesdivest #StopG4S via @Addameer
2. Check out our Facebook page and share one of the #StopG4S graphics we’ve created.
3. Write a message on the Facebook page of the Gates Foundation calling on them to divest from G4S
Thank you for your support!
