I hope you’re coping ok with the heat.
Today the Bureau of Meteorology announced that 2013 was the hottest year in Australia’s recorded history. It’s worth checking out their climate statement here.
From a sweltering summer to a very warm winter, we all knew it wasn’t an ordinary year. Thresholds like this are being crossed more and more, and it is up to us to ensure that they don’t slip by quietly. This isn’t just a random event but a warning sign that must not be missed.
Hot weather will be in the news this week. Today and tomorrow you can help shape the story by writing a letter to the editor of the Courier Mail, The Australian and your local paper. Letters to the editor not only get the message out to readers, they also influence the editorial policies of the newspapers, some of which are badly in need of a change!
Below are some talking points to get you started, and the email addresses for the papers are below.
The earlier in the day you get your letter in, the greater the chance it’ll be published (we’ve found that before noon is great).
Thanks and stay safe in this hot weather!
Brad and the six degrees team.
PS: if you write a letter, please send us a copy afterwards!
