a remembrance day they want us all to forget
but they did it once
& when shove comes to push
they’ll do it again
[Ed. Note: Thanks Jim. See video “4 Dead in Ohio”]
“Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We’re finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming
Four dead in Ohio.”
(“Ohio” lyrics by Neil Young)
“We Have A Conscience”
by Abby Zimet
Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Kent State shootings, when the Ohio National Guard opened fire on Vietnam War protesters, killing four students and injuring nine others.
The day’s events include speakers, a walking tour and a live “Truth Tribunal” webcast from filmmaker Michael Moore. There’s also a website with photos, updates, analyses and stories from the participants.
Most notable: Audio interview with a matter-of-fact Dean Kahler, a student and conscientious objector paralyzed when he was shot in the spine.
“As humans, we have the ability to reason, and we have a conscience.” Dean Kahler, on why he opposed, and still opposes, any war.
