Why we support the “great ride of return”
The Great Ride of Return is a global, non-violent, family-friendly grassroots movement uniting communities across more than 95 cities and 35 countries demanding justice, equality and an end to the occupation.
Inspired by the Gaza Sunbirds, participants of all ages gather to cycle peacefully, raise the Palestinian flag, and fund essential support for displaced families and disability rehabilitation. The Big Ride for Palestine has raised more than $350 on rides since late 2025 and we hope to raise more on Sunday 29 March 2026 at our Great Ride of Return.
The Sunbirds provide people with special needs the opportunity for rehabilitation through sport.
Cycling is more than a sport — it is a form of mobility and freedom. For many people with disabilities, a bicycle can function like mobility equipment, offering independence in transport where wheelchairs or prosthetics are not available. Our co-founder in Gaza began riding again just seven months after losing his leg, even before receiving a prosthetic, proving how quickly cycling can restore dignity, movement, and a sense of possibility. It is this spirit that drives our programme: using the bicycle as a tool for both rehabilitation and liberation.
In light of the ongoing genocide, the Gaza Sunbirds para-cycling team has reverted all its resources to providing community-led aid to Gaza. To date, our athletes and staff have distributed over $520,000 USD worth of aid.
