In an earlier version of the article The honourable member doth protest too much it was alleged that my local MP Renee Coffey held shares in Elbit Systems. though her Future Generation Australia Limited portfolio.
Elbit is an active participant in Israel’s mass slaughter of over 600,000 Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
On 16 September 2025 wrote to my local member and included the following question:
“Is it appropriate that an Australian MP in office should be engaged in business activity involving Elbit systems when it was an Elbit systems Hermes 450 drone that killed Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom in Gaza on April 1st, 2024?“
The allegation that there is a link between Ms Coffey’s share portfolio in Future Generations Australia Limited and Elbit Systems is incorrect. It resulted from my misreading of a Crikey article that publishes share portfolio’s held by MPs.
However the Member for Griffith and her colleagues in the parliament do bear responsibility for the shares held by Australia’s Future Fund and Elbit Systems. This now more than ever, given the public disclosure by the United Nations Commission of Inquiry that Israel is committing what has been known a terrible and unforgivable genocide of the Palestinian people.
I wish to unreservedly apologize to Ms Coffey for that error. [I have emailed my local member with this retraction and apology on 19 September 2025.]
Future Fund is a sovereign wealth fund, and Future Generation Australia Ltd is a privately managed investment fund. From ChatGPT, there are no clear links between the latter and weapons companies, as opposed to the Future Fund. However, it seems that Future Generation Australia LTD invests in BHP and Santos that complicit in environmental destruction and climate change.
