Mandatory detention again?

The Australian government introduced mandatory detention of refugees in the early 1990s, and one has to ask has it learned anything but in the intervening years? From what I can gather from the speeches given at a rally organised by the Refugee Action collective in Magan-djin on Saturday 22 June 2024, the Australian government is trying to re-introduce mandatory detention for those asylum-seekers who will not cooperatein their own deportation.

Kill the Bill

The following speeches were delivered at the rally in Brisbane against the proposed Deportation Bill that will have a huge negative impact on refugees, especially those unfairly rejected by the flawed FastTrack process support former Australian governments.
