The Australian government introduced mandatory detention of refugees in the early 1990s, and one has to ask has it learned anything but in the intervening years? From what I can gather from the speeches given at a rally organised by the Refugee Action collective in Magan-djin on Saturday 22 June 2024, the Australian government is trying to re-introduce mandatory detention for those asylum-seekers who will not cooperatein their own deportation.
Kill the Bill
The following speeches were delivered at the rally in Brisbane against the proposed Deportation Bill that will have a huge negative impact on refugees, especially those unfairly rejected by the flawed FastTrack process support former Australian governments.
