This is a video shot on the 23rd of December 2023, almost on the eve of Christmas, about a sit-in, an occupation of the Queen Street Mall in Brisbane (Meanjin). We started off in post office square, numbering about 500 people of all ages and backgrounds. By the time we had marched to the center of the Queen Street Mall, we were about one thousand in number.
And then we had a series of speakers and music and events that showed the energy that exists in Brisbane for a ceasefire in Gaza, for an end to the occupation and for Palestine, to be free from the river to the sea.
This event was organised by Justice for Palestine Meanjin – Brisbane, Brisbane Stands With Palestine and Queensland Muslims Inc.

Each day brings news of more Palestinian civilians killed and injured healthcare in Israeli attacks across Gaza. Homes schools, hospitals, farms – nothing is spared. Nowhere is safe.
Hundreds of scholars and practitioners of international humanitarian and genocide law are warning Israel is carrying out genocide. Hunger, thirst, and disease have emerged as an even greater threat than bombs. Gaza’s 2.2 million people are trapped without food, water, and health care. Israel is using starvation and thirst as weapons of war and refusing to provide unhindered save access for humanitarian aid to meet the needs of the civilians.
Australian government officials continue to pretend Israel’s aims are legitimate. But there is nothing legitimate about genocide.
