Israel’s ‘Hannibal directive’

The case builds that Israel may have invoked its infamous ‘Hannibal directive’, which requires that the army kill Israelis rather than let them be taken hostage – Jonathan Cook

The inevitable has happened. A Palestinian friend has lost two cousins and their grandchildren. Israeli occupation forces have murdered half his family in Gaza. They had been held hostage by the Israeli occupation forces since the 7th of October 2023. Along with 2 million other people from Gaza. If you stay, you die. If you leave, you die. The Palestinian resistance has released four people. They say they have been well treated and given the same food and drink as the Palestinians.

Meanwhile the people of Gaza have been deprived of food water and electricity by the occupation forces. As many reports have stated, Israel is in defiance of International law. Gaza is a form of torture. Having held Palestinians in Gaza until executed by Israel dropping bombs. This is contrary to International law because it is murder.

Netanyahu declared war on Hamas. There has been no war for the past 18 days. The resistance took 222 Israelis across the green line into Gaza. An old lady was released and she said that they were treated kindly. On the other hand, Israelis have been killing babies. 50% of the population of Gaza are children. Just imagine the torture of being led to a white shroud. The attendance says in arabic: I need you to tell me if you see your parent inside. You bend down to kiss her features, her features and then you say goodbye. This is the life.

The cowardice of the Israelis Is legendary. They stand afar and celebrate the bombings … too afraid to come close to the people they are executing.

Meanwhile we the relatives, the friends, the comrades, bear witness to the massacre of our loved ones on TV screens , to torture us all the rest of our days.

Who are the hostages? 222 Israelis or 2.2 million Palestinians?

If you think like a fascist, then even your own can be killed by you.

  1. Dear New Daily,

    Thanks for the daily updates.

As a union member it comes with our union membership.

I am not sure where you are getting your Middle East reportage from, but it is very biased towards Israel and not at all fair towards the Palestinian position.

As Australian union members we have been involved in providing solidarity and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians, via APHEDA-Union Aid Abroad since our founding in 1982.

Australian Union Aid Abroad was born in the Palestinian refugee camps of Beirut after the Israeli led massacres at Sabra and Chatila.

Ever since we have been supporting the humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people in the face of land confiscations, ethnic cleansing, military occupation and gross human rights violations.

Of course we also condemn violence from all sides, including from Hezbollah and Hamas.

I would expect a union-friendly publication to be at least fair and even-handed instead of banging the drum for the Israeli military.

I am hoping the reporting will improve.

    best regards,
