A crowd of over 2000 people marched through Brisbane Street last night in support of the Palestinian people suffering a genocidal bombardment by the Israeli military in Gaza. A humanitarian crisis of enormous proportions is threatened by the genocidal acts of the Israeli government after 75 years of occupation of Palestine.
After a rally in King George Square lasting about an hour, a march of Palestinian supporters from unions, mosques, solidarity groups, different national groups, churches, Labor Friends of Palestine, first nations people – ordinary people from all walks of life took to the streets. It was as if to say: Palestinians must decide their own path of resistance. Our task is to provide solidarity.
Sadly, the only chance for peace from the Israeli side came in 1992 when Yitzhak Rabin, then Prime Minister of Israel signed the Oslo Accord with Yassir Arafat the leader of the PLO Palestinian liberation organisation. Unfortunately forces backed by the current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assassinated Robyn in 1995 before any chance of the treaty bearing fruit. Netanyahu has launched Israel on a path of decimation of Palestinians living in Gaza and the West Bank. Here is the tale of disappearing Palestine from last nights rally.
We will be marching again on 21 October 2023.
