Bloody Sunday

In 1972 Bernadette Devlin was the youngest person ever to be elected to the British parliament in Westminster. Bernadette was elected by by the constituents of Ulster. She was fired upon by British paratroopers seeking to prevent a march from the Bogside in Derry. Bloody Sunday, or the Bogside Massacre, was a massacre on 30 January 1972 when British soldiers shot 26 unarmed civilians during a protest march in the Bogside area of Derry.

Devlin was not allowed to speak inside the parliament even though she was the only MP who was an eyewitness to the events that resulted in the death of 13 people immediately and one other some months later.

Here is the interview conducted by the British press with Bernadette that Devlin just after she had slapped the face of the Home Secretary inside the parliament for the lies that he told in trying to blame Irish Republicans for the murders perpetrated by his troops.
