Anti-war activists have again begun disruption of the Land Forces weapons expo in its second day, after nearly a week of actions targeting the expo.
Today’s actions will include visits to weapons manufacturing facilities throughout Brisbane, a funeral parade from 4pm (5 October 22), and a vigil for Palestinian deaths in the evening.
Overnight, parts of the convention centre were covered with fake blood.
Adrian Heaney, an activist involved in the campaign, said:
“This conference is a key enabler of corruption, ecological destruction and death. The people that will meet and do their deals within the convention centre are not doing so in the service of “defence”; they are plotting destruction and death, all in the pursuit of profit. It’s our responsibility to stop it where it starts.”
Yesterday’s actions throughout the day generated a major police response, aided by temporary walling established around the entrance of the centre. 6 arrests were made over the day, including of local councilor Jonathan Sriranganathan, for a variety of charges.
Protestors say disruption of the expo will continue until its close tomorrow.
