The Ukrainian government is rounding up Leftists

‘Not One Inch Eastward – Secretary of State James A. Baker in a deal made in early February 1990 with Mikhail Gorbachev, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

The President of Ukraine, Zelensky, has suspended civil rights for a number of political groups. Any group with socialism or communism as its goal has been banned if it had not already been. Also Zelensky has banned the Opposition Platform for Life, that came second in the recent elections and currently holds 44 seats in the 450-seat Ukrainian Parliament.

Political Solution

A political solution is what should be sought by both sides in the Ukraine conflict, not a military one.

Both Zelensky and Putin have created a situation where the military runs rampant through the country.

In western media, we are hearing much about the losses and failure of the Russian military (which are probably true) but we have very little information about the Ukrainian army and its defeats.

Why does the Ukrainian government keep calling for more weapons and armaments from NATO if their army are doing so well? They are clearly losing men and equipment.

Putin was wrong to seek a military solution to the problems faced by Russian speakers in the East and in Crimea. Spurred on by the US and NATO, Zelensky has not sought peace in the East. Together, both sides are responsible for the destruction of both Ukrainian heavy industry and agriculture eg the wheat industry.

The Chronology of NATO expansion

Not one Inch
NATO has taken advantage of the civil war in Ukraine since the 2014 Maidan revolution expanding its sphere of influence. Now NATO is seeking to fast track the admission of Finland and Sweden what does this do for Russian paranoia? Remember the US promise to Gorbachev – ‘Not One Inch‘?

Petrol, gas and food prices are rising throughout the Western world as a result of the war. This will hit countries in the Middle East particularly hard … for example Egypt gets most of its wheat from Ukraine. Just think how dependent the Arab people are on bread!

The consequences are terrible for all.

The Putin strategy has been clear for years… recover Russian influence in the Donbas region, secure a water supply to Crimea by taking the eastern land all the way up to the Dnieper river. And creating a land bridge. Take control of the Black Sea.

What is Russia without Ukraine? Russia has lost over a third of its productive capacity, and many of its people since the 2014 Maidan revolution and before.

It seems certain that Western Ukraine (at least) will become part of NATO.

NATO has created a militarised zone right through Ukraine.

How are ordinary people to live their lives in such circumstances where NATO is expanding eastwards?
