R.I.P. Chris Maver – community/ gay/ human rights activist, West End/ Brisbane legend and always full of mischief.

It was with great sadness that I learnt of the death of Chris Maver this morning. I first met Chris in the late ’70’s when we convinced him to lead us through a series of workshops to fine tune our street theatre skills. Chris was very gifted in both song and theatre. Often accompanied by Chris Anderson on guitar Chris would provide song to man a community celebration & solidarity event.
The last event we did together we had a great evening in solidarity with the Manning and Assange families at Turnstyle, Brisbane. – WISE Up Action – A Solidarity Network for Manning and Assange
It was always great to be ambushed by Chris on the bus or in the streets of West End and be admonished by him in character as a Tipperary moralist disappointed in my lack of progress. Funeral for Chris Maver will be this Monday Oct 27th 12 noon Sumner Park.
Wake to follow at Boundary Hotel West End from 2pm

So we hide the poor,
And kill the prophets.”
