Please consider attending two important events in Brisbane next week…
It is only a week until people from all over Australia will be gathering in Brisbane to attend the IPAN (Independent and Peaceful Australia) forum and conference. The focus of these two events is how to move our Government away from its subservient acceptance of US troops, planes, ships and bases on our soil.
The forum will present three very different perspectives on the movement to build a peaceful and independent Australia – Richard Tanter is Australia’s most expert researcher on US bases in Australia – their functions and roles. Professor Kozue Akibayashi brings the experience of Japanese people’s struggle around the giant US military base in Okinawa. And Scott Ludlam as a Greens Senator addresses the important role of changing our law in order to bring everyday people’s aspirations into effect. The forum is on Wednesday evening (8th July) at The Edge, which is in the State Library of Qld.
On the next day (Thursday 9th July) representatives of the more than 60 organisations who have established IPAN will be meeting to workshop our campaign over coming months and years, as well as building a more solid foundation for national cooperation. We will explore ways we can work closely with people’s movements in other countries in our region, such as the Phillipines and Japan.
This movement is one based on the strength and determination of everyday people – so we encourage you to attend on both the forum and the conference. You can register online – see the details attached, or see the Weekend Notes details of our events
Also note that the IPAN conference is a supporting event just prior to Peace Convergence protesting in Shoalwater Bay on the 11th 12th July where over 20000 US Marines will train with 10000 ADF for war.
