Foco Nuevo in December

Firstly we our thoughts are with those of you who have suffered damage from Thursday’s storm.

Our final Foco Nuevo for 2014 features special guests Rivermouth and 3 Miles from Texas. But before we give details we’d like to invite you to the LAURA STREET FESTIVAL being held this Sunday, November 30 in Laura St, Highgate Hill from 1 pm. More information is available here. Jumping Fences will be playing at 5.30 pm at the Cafe Del Blanco stage.

And now back to our guests for this month’s Foco Nuevo.

Rivermouth: We live in the stormwater drains beneath Brisbane’s West End. Our music is a blend of spoken word, hip hop, jazz, funk, reggae and excellent chai. Lyrics are important. We want to tickle your cerebrum and tug your heartstrings at the same time. Our vocalist is a cross between a typewriter and a megaphone. Our keyboardist is a classically trained virtuoso mad scientist. Our bassist plays in the Richter scale. Our drummer’s great-grandfather was a metronome. Dance to our music or you can just sit, listen, stroke your chin and nod thoughtfully. [website]

3 Miles From Texas was born out of love and passion for writing and producing great songs. Previously known as ‘Little Secrets’ they changed their name and released a self-titled album in 2012.

While recording, the founding members, Michael Tully, Rob Stewart and Tony Mockeridge asked their friend and major contributor to the album, Rose Broe, if she would join the band. In a momentary lapse of judgement she agreed. Her multi-instrumental and vocal talents have added another dimension to their live performances, much to the delight of band and audience.

3 Miles From Texas play all original material taken from three albums. They are committed to making every show the best it can be, and always show up on time! [website]

Jumping Fences:
The song-writing partnership of Lachlan Hurse and Sue Monk will be playing their energetic folk, tinged with Cuban flavours. Their original works contain imagery and styles that reveal both an incisive insight into Australian life and a long association with Latin American culture. [website]

Hope to see you next Friday,

Lachlan and Sue<
