Adelaide Palestine Solidarity Weekend, 21-23 September 2012 – Second Notice

Dear Friend of Palestine

We let you know in June that the Australian Friends of Palestine Association (AFOPA) and the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN) have collaborated to organise the Adelaide Palestine Solidarity Weekend for 21-23 September 2012. This weekend will combine a number of complementary events aimed at strengthening Palestinian advocacy and support in Australia

Built around the Edward Said Memorial Lecture, which will be held on Saturday 22 September 2012 in Adelaide, this solidarity event will feature the third in the annual series of national Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) workshops, a solidarity concert and the Annual General Meeting of APAN which will include an open meeting for APAN campaign planning.

The main focus of the Saturday BDS workshop will be on the development of campaigns, projects and action plans, formulated in workshop mode. For discussion and review at the workshop, ideas and proposals for BDS campaigns or projects are being sought. You are invited to provide a proposal by completing the proposal template that is available on the AFOPA website.

To guide and inspire the workshop, four internationally renowned and experienced activists will speak to the participants: Professor Ilan Pappe, Omar Barghouti , Rafeef Ziadah and Samah Sabawi. Samah will facilitate the workshop process. Summary biographies of these speakers are to be found on the AFOPA webpage for the event.

The solidarity concert on Friday 21 September will feature Brisbane singer/songwriter and activist, Phil Monsour, who will perform the Adelaide launch of his new CD, Ghosts of Deir Yassin. He will be joined by Adelaide performers and BDS activists Helen Lawrie, Phil Davies and Abbas Al Khafaji.

A full program of the weekends activities is available on the AFOPA website.

You will need to register for this event, so please find the registration form on the AFOPA website. The form is also attached to this email along with the event flyer. Registrations close on 31 August 2012.

We hope you will come to Adelaide 21-23 September 2012 and participate in this event that will bring together people like you who are in solidarity with the people of Palestine. We look forward to seeing you.

Regards
