Socialist Alternative Meeting: The Civil Rights Movement in America

Today, despite America’s first Black president, there has been little change and there is now little hope for African Americans. They are bearing the brunt of the economic crisis, with unemployment among Blacks at almost 16 per cent, and with the highly publicised murder of Trayvon Martin it is apparent racism is alive and killing in the States. To have hope of change, we need to look at the rich history of Black resistance in the US when, for a time, thousands of Black activists saw the need not to get into the White House, but to tear it down. Come along for a talk and discussion on this inspiring period of radicalism and resistance in America.
