Family Violence, Income Management and Commonwealth Laws – request for input from Law Reform Commission

“My people don’t need no introduction, we are the people you label with white dysfunction, our beauty, our pride you just don’t mention, I gotta ask, people, what’s your intention?” — Palm Island Rap artist, Lizzy G.

The ALRC has released its Discussion Paper which contains a number of proposals for reform and also some questions where the ALRC is seeking further guidance from stakeholders.

Chapter 13 discusses Income Management and proposes significant reform for IM. Given the length of the document, the ALRC has also produced a Summary Discussion Paper which provides an overview of the full Discussion Paper including proposals and questions.

A copy of the full Discussion Paper can be found here: http://www.alrc.gov.au/publications/family-violence-and-commonwealth-laws-dp-76.

A copy of the Summary Discussion Paper can be found here: http://www.alrc.gov.au/publications/family-violence-and-commonwealth-laws-dp-76-summary.

The closing date for submissions to the Discussion Paper is 30 September 2011.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions and we look forward to your participation in the Inquiry.
