Unions fought for our rights

Editor’s Note: This letter has been sent around by the Qld Council of Unions QCU as an example of an ideal defence of unionism.

However the letter plays down the role of confrontation in winning disputes and building ”One for all, and all for one” unionism. We do not want the business model unionism we see in white collar jobs. Good unions fight for their members and did not look out for the best case and then chose to fight.

Building Workers Unions like the CFMEU and BLF won collective agreements because they went on strike.

Union members should not join unions as a safeguard or insurance. Unions are not just for one they are for all.
