Palestinian Exhibition at Logan West Library Library

Queensland Palestine Association and Justice for Palestine (JFP) took an exhibition Logan West library at Browns Plains and hope it will create greater understanding of the Palestinian situation and its refugees.

But will the Logan City Council follow up and get the exhibit and films in all their libraries?

One of the organisers wrote:

Hopefully, the exhibition will go a long way towards correcting the myth that Palestinians love violence and use it to dispossess others. In fact, the Palestinians are a peaceful, tolerant, indigenous people who have been divested of their land, homes and dignity in the most extremely violent manner imaginable. It is in Palestine that Jewish victims of the dreaded Spanish inquisition sought refuge and were treated with great respect. For centuries, Christians have practised their faith and maintained their holy places in the Holy Land undisturbed.

At Saturday’s opening, Amber Hansen performed a Middle Eastern folk dance as Palestinian savouries and desserts were served.

There was also a screening of Mohammed Alatar’s documentary ‘The Iron Wall.’

Mohammed Alatar sent the following message to one of the JFP supporters after his film was screened publicly for the first time in Brisbane last year:

“Thank you for your e mail and activism on behalf of Palestine, I am glad that your event was successful and I was able to help you with that, you can show the film as much as you want to help you with your work. Salaam from Ramallah”

Association president Khalil Hamdan said the exhibition included books, handmade clothes, saddlebags and shoulder bags made of sheep, camel or goat’s wool, and a genuine Palestinian atlas.

He said the media did not always represent the truth in relation to Palestinian affairs.
“We hope this exhibition will raise awareness of Palestinian refugees and their suffering,” he said.

The Falastini exhibition of Palestinian artefacts is at the Logan West Library in Grand Plaza Drive, Browns Plains

The exhibition continues until March 31 2010.
