Motorist hits activist Justice for Palestine Magandjin picket at Dutton Park Caltex petrol station
The more I think about what happened at the Boycott Caltex picket on Saturday, the angrier I get.
A motorist tried to run over an activist or, at very least, was reckless in driving onto the footpath and striking him. The protestor was not standing on the driveway at the time but even if he were the onus is on the motorist to give way to the pedestrian. Fortunately the car only hit the activist’s hand and the Boycott Caltex sign he was holding.
I felt like going over and giving the coppers another serve after the cop claimed that the activist was part of an unlawful assembly and refused to take action against the motorist. [ police often pretend that we live in the Joh era when they were constantly on the take or, in the parlance of that era, part of the joke].
But the cops would never have listened and probably found an excuse to arrest me (they had a paddy wagon parked nearby inside the petrol station). Police only deploy to this ⛽️ station when there is a Facebook post notifying the picket. Because of this response by police the Facebook post becomes a kind of NOI*.
Plus, “unauthorised” or not, surely motorists aren’t allowed to hit pedestrians. Previously cops have tried to prevent pickets talking to motorists, which I’m sure wouldn’t stand up in court.
It is definitely a waste of time writing a letter to the Police Commissioner about the cops failure to protect a person trying to stop Caltex fueling the genocide in Gaza.
It was interesting that the motorist got his wife to step out of the car and to do the ‘negotiation’. What do you make of that?
The motorist’s wife did get out of the car and say to cool it as there was a child on board.
Was the driver already in trouble with the cops?
All the activist said was:
“I wish you the best and have a lovely family day out together.”
They either do not understand the reasons for our picket or they support Israel. Either way they do not care about Palestinians.
One more nuclear family in a bubble pretending the world is rosy.
There is more to this story, but the activist said: “I will not forget the cop, but I’m letting it go.”
Meanwhile, reports from the West Bank in Palestine indicate a surge of settler attacks on villagers in the street even beyond the horrific violence of the past, with many incidents involving masked Israeli settlers setting fire to houses while Palestinian farmers are attacked doing agricultural work to feed their countrymen.
Touch one, touch all!
