Queen Elizabeth Court in Brisbane CBD
There were two cases before a single magistrate at court number 34 today. One was an assault and rape and the other was Boeing’s complicity in the genocide in Gaza . The former involved alleged crime committed onshore, and the latter involved genocide identified by the International Court of Justice.
The magistrate decided to deal with the former choosing to adjourn the Boeing matter to the 25th of February 2025, more than a year after the genocide started.
Another difference was that the person accused in the Boeing matter was self-represented, whereas the accused involved in the violent assault case had senior counsel to represent them. There is little doubt that the Brisbane Magistrates Court holds unrepresented people in contempt. Police are using the courts to tie up people opposed to genocide.
Criminal assault trumps mass murder in Brisbane’s Magistrate Court
When asked to plead, Jim Dowling told the magistrate, “I do not recognise the state’s right to try me because of its involvement in war crimes.”
The magistrate then stood the matter down and had the defendant wait for four hours outside Court only to tell him he could go home and that the matter will not go to trial until 25th of February 2025. This is over 12 months after a group of activists occupied Boeing’s offices in Charlotte Street in Brisbane City.

Abuse of process
Constable Jake Threlfall from Tactical Crime Squad will be the first witness called if the matter ever goes to trial.
He is one of several police officers who assaulted people at the annual May Day celebrations on the 6th of May 2024. He and his fellow officers have been working overtime to stop activists opposed to the genocide in Gaza, looking for any excuse to tie people up in court. Mind you, police are receiving a lot of help from other arms of the state and corporations close to the reins of power.
