Palestine: the Dabke is the stomp of the farmer cultivating crops

Paradigm Shift (4ZZZ fm102.1 Fridys at Noon) on TBR23 For Palestine (2023 – 09 – 29). The Big Ride for Palestine remembers Olfat Mahmoud.

Andy: “Today on the show, we are going to be talking about Palestine. It’s not a new political issue. But it’s one that I think it’s worth touching back in on every now and then because pet for Palestinian people, they live it every day. And if you follow the news set, there’s constantly reports of violent attacks by settlers on Palestinian people and expanding of Israeli territory.”

We are talking about the ongoing dispossession, oppression, resilience and resistance of Palestinian people. We get an update from Lee Rhiannon who has just returned from Palestine, hear about the importance of Palestinian dakbe dancing from Sameer Ellagta, and replay an interview with Olfat Mahmoud – a legend of Palestinian humanitarian work who has sadly just passed away.

Interviews
Lee Rhiannon (former NSW Greens Senator, just returned from Palestine).
Sameer Ellagata – Al Zaytoun (the olive) Dabke dance Troupe
Olfat Mahmoud – Palestinian Women’s Humanitarian Organisation and author of “Tears for Tarshiha” about her struggle as a Palestinian woman.

Songs
Phil Monsour – I left my heart in Palestine
Rafeef Zidiah – poem – Cultivate Hope – “Our spring in Palestine is born in prison …”
Ibrahim Al Masri – Bint l’Arab
Lowkey – Long live Palestine

  1. A last minute reminder for our Brisbane supporters and participants that tomorrow morning we have our closing activities for The Big Ride for Palestine—Australia 2023.

For our cyclists we have our closing ride, a leisurely 26 km ride around the western end of the River Loop, going via Long Pocket. We are assembling at 7.45 am for an 8 am departure, at Baladi coffee cart on the Brisbane Corso.

Our grand finale will also be at the Baladi coffee cart, at 10 am, with the Al Zayton Palestinian Dabke Troupe, and guest speakers; Omar Ashour (Falasteen Inc), Jeff Knight (Labor Friends of Palestine) and a message from Lee Rhiannon (NSW Greens Palestine supporter)

Please note that our fundraising site is still open for late donations should you wish to contribute.

We look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow. Once again we thank everyone for their contribution to this important issue. As the Palestinian resistance and solidarity movement across the world builds, we look forward to the day when Palestine will be free.

    Sunday, 1st October, 2023.
