Shameful allies

On Jonson Street last Wednesday, I saw that the Bohemian apartment development billboard had been painted white and carried the following slogans, “Stop Arming Israel” and “Stop Gaza Genocide!”.

The next day, I saw a bearded man whiting out the slogans. I asked him why he was doing this, and he replied that he was from Israel.  I asked him to explain why he was expunging an anti-genocide message, which meant that he was in favour of genocide, but he refused to answer me. I told him that Israel had now killed nearly 37,000 civilians and injured 83,000, two-thirds of whom were children and women.

How did he justify this? He kept silent and continued to paint.

He was joined by two Israeli women who simply laughed when I questioned them! It is likely that these three Israelis are representative of the thinking back home, where 94% of Israelis support the government.

This means that Israel is a psychopathic society characterised by individuals who display “high levels of unemotionalism or callousness, as well as impulsiveness or developmental antisocial traits, such as destructive or aggressive behavior” (Forbes Health).

It is shameful and criminal for Australia to consider Israel a close ally and to have an ex-prime minister, Morrison, claim that there is “a special place for Israel in his heart”!  Despite the ruling of the International Criminal Court and the issuance of arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gollant, Australia maintains a deafening silence over apartheid Israel’s Gaza genocide.
