All in all the present period is pleasant. History is evidently bracing itself to take a new start, and the signs of decomposition everywhere are delightful for every mind not bent upon the conservation of things as they are. – Karl Marx.
The Tory government in Britain has made two fatal mistakes: Brexit and its alliance with the United States. No leader (be it Truss, Boris or Theresa May) can resolve the abyss into which they have thrown the working class.
Liz Truss, UK’s prime minister, took ‘special measures’ over the capitalist economy post-Brexit. The market fought back. Bloody Friday’s already been taken by the Irish*, so I don’t know how you’d describe today’s resignation. Here is Truss’s final speech as leader of the Tory Party. Can the conservatives get any more crazy than this?
“I came into office at a time of great economic and international instability. Families and businesses were worried about how to pay their bills. Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine threatens the security of our whole continent and our country has been held back for too long by low economic growth.” – Liz Truss.
Comment – I don’t see it as Putin’s war … it was not Putin who blew up Nordstream … he wants to sell gas to Germany via Nordstream. Plus Ukraine has been stealing gas from the Russian pipelines that traverse their country; the Zelenski government and their oligarks have been taking what they want and not paying for it. Added to this, the Ukrainian government has charged Russia royalties for allowing the pipelines across Ukraine. Like Russians, the Ukrainian people are poor.
Liz Truss went on to say:
“I was elected by the Conservative Party with a mandate to change this.
“We delivered on energy bills and on cutting National Insurance.
“And we set out a vision for a low tax high growth economy that would take advantage of the freedoms of Brexit.

That was Truss speaking at her resignation outside No 10 Downing Street … the last three Tory PMs have made two big mistakes … Brexit and the alliance with the United States. They needed to break free of the US and stick with Europe. It was insane for government to provide the rich with even more ways of cutting their taxes.
“I recognise, though, given the situation I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.” – Liz Truss.
Meaning the Prime Minister could not cut taxes for the rich).

“I have therefore spoken to His Majesty The King to notify him that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party.
“This morning, I met the chairman of the 1922 committee, Sir Graham Brady.
“We’ve agreed there will be a leadership election to be completed within the next week.
“This will ensure that we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plans and maintain our country’s economic stability and national security.
“I will remain as prime minister until a successor has been chosen.
“Thank you.”
Jeremy Hunt, resurrected from several political deaths, is apparently the safest pair of hands in the Tory party of Great Britain (said with irony). But he does not wish to be PM.
Tories continued support for Brexit and the alliance with the United States has dragged the British government into an economic abyss.
