The consequences of coronavirus continue to lay bare just how unequal many communities are both economically and socially, and this is particularly true for Palestinians in the Occupied Territories, and in neighbouring Lebanon.
With their autonomy restricted or denied entirely, most people do not have access to testing facilities or safe and well-resourced health centres. Quarantining is also a difficult option, as a majority of people are employed in the informal economy, which means not working is simply not possible. In Beirut, Palestinians living in refugee camps live in cramped conditions and have nowhere to quarantine safely.
However, these communities are responding, and are supporting each other during difficult times.
In this webinar, you will hear from two speakers involved in the response on the ground. From Beirut, Dr Olfat Mahmoud will talk about the situation facing Palestinian refugees. From Jenin in the West Bank, Dr Hesham Sawaftah will talk about the consequences of COVID-19 in the Occupied Territories. Both speakers will share with you the challenges impacting their communities, and how they and others are responding.
