Killing in custody of ms. dhu
Brisbane Rally in support of justice for Ms Dhu 23 Oct 2014
All these years after the murder of John Pat by police Ms Dhu is killed in custody for failure to pay a $1,000 transit fine… Paul Spearim spoke at the rally outside Parliament House:
Here we are again
Here we are ... again
Lucky Country
lucky for what?
lucky for some
not lucky for what i am,
an aboriginal person
it ain't lettin' us in
Across the water
aboriginal centre for performing arts
deadly actors, we got deadly everything,
we can't get anywhere ...
Force our government to change these laws ...
aboriginal people will always be oppressed ...
bein' locked up for a $1,000 for a transit fine ...
they work with us different ...
let them sleep it off ...
we died under their watch ...
Over 300 times we have died
in their custody since the royal commission
into blacks deaths in custody ...
we must never give up ...
we will always be here ...
standing up for our rights ...
We have always been able to gain individually
but never been able to gain collectively, as a whole ...
stand up and never forget ...
old people always watchin' us ...
Circle of justice ...
that fire in our bellies will never go out ...
stay black, stay strong
don't forget where you came from!
