Speaker from Gaza tonight

6:15 at the QCU, 16 Peel St, South Brisbane

K6_TY47YS3x.png Dr. Mona El-Farra, Director of Gaza Projects, is a physician by training and a human rights and women’s rights activist by practice in the occupied Gaza Strip. She was born in Khan Younis, Gaza and has dedicated herself to developing community based programs that aim to improve health quality and link health services with cultural and recreation services all over the Gaza Strip. Dr. El-Farra is also the Health Chair of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society of the Gaza Strip and a member of the Union of Health Work Committees. Dr. El-Farra has a son and two daughters.

**Please Note – Change of Speaker**

This event will still be going ahead, but with a change of speaker. Due to protests by Egyptian security guards, the crossing that allows people out of Gaza – the Rafah crossing – has been closed since last Friday. It only reopened on Wednesday night.

Unfortunately Dr El-Farra could therefore not leave for Australia until Thursday, and will not be here in time for this fourm.

However, we have a very worthy replacement – Sameer El-Lagta. Sameer is an Australian-Palestinian with familiy in Gaza. He was visiting his family last November when the Israeli Defense Forces launched an 8-day military operation (“Operation Pillar of Defense”). Sameer will provide an eyewitness acount with stories and pictures of the impact for ordinary Palestinians during this period of time.

Light refreshments will also be served.
