Comrades and Friends,
Please find attached a flyer for the Alex Macdonald Memorial Lecture, an annual event organised by the Brisbane Labour History Association.
This year’s event has been prompted by the decision of the Liberal National government to “move” the May Day/Labour Day public holiday from May until October. The lecture will be held on the evening of 1 May, at the Queensland Council of Unions building, 16 Peel Street, South Brisbane.
Dr Glenn Davies will be giving this year ‘s lecture, and will be examining some aspects of the history of Labour Day in Queensland and its celebration. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome to attend. Further details are on the attached flyer.
I have also attached a membership application/renewal form for members to complete for the coming financial year. Financial members should have received these forms with their journal, which was recently mailed out, and some renewal advices have already made their way back to me. But if you already have a form, don’t let this one go to waste. Why not pass it on to someone you think might be interested in labour history or receiving our journal?
I hope to see as many of you as possible on May Day – the real one.
