Foco Nuevo in September

This month Foco Nuevo goes acoustic – with a special night of cameo performances by a great line up of local singer songwriters – Phil Monsour, Lonnie Martin and Dave, Muddy Tutu, Glenys Anderson and Chris Jack and Mama Juju.

Mama Juju: jazz/blues influenced duo featuring Julie Minto on harmonica and big bluesy vocals and Sugar Cane Slim on guitar- Funny, irreverent and heart searching songs of love, pain, and the whole damn thing. [website].

Phil Monsour is an Australian troubadour who sings songs of hope, humanity, invasion and occupations. He is a committed independent singer/songwriter with a history of producing music that travels beyond the mainstream to explore complex issues of identity, solidarity and politics [website].

Lonnie Martin and Dave Hughes: From country pubs to open fields and festival tents, their raised voices ring in close harmony reminiscent of the great names of the English folk revival. Combining a love of voice with an appreciation of modern and traditional folk, Lonnie and Dave have audiences laughing and crying in between singing along to their beautifully crafted arrangements [website].

Muddy Tutu is Helen Cartan, Kath Lloyd and Christine Grodd. They began singing together in the vocal ensemble “The Esplanados”, and have performed separately in ensembles: Marmalady, Mambo Jambo and A Love Supreme. With and without acoustic accompaniment they weave their voices to create an eclectic mix of original songs.

Glenys Anderson and Chris Jack: Glenys Anderson began writing songs twelve years ago. Since then she has won with a number of songwriting awards including the prestigious Music Oz Top Five and Top Ten. Last year she achieved number eight and eleven in the Australian Songwriters Awards.

Jumping Fences the song-writing partnership of Lachlan Hurse and Sue Monk, will be playing their energetic mix of original and Latin American songs, and in the spirit of the night, playing as a duo. Their songs extend the folk tradition, and give new insights into contemporary life. [website]
