Phil Monsour Newsletter 1
Hi All Thanks to all those who supported the recent CD launch and fundraiser. The event raised over 2100 dollars and the money was directed to the Gaza Strip through Union Aid Abroad Apheda. Thanks to all those who cooked, cleaned and made the night happen. I will shortly join US songwriter David Rovics for a series of solidarity concerts in Adelaide, Canberra, Newcastle, Wollongong, Brisbane and Lismore. For venues times and booking information http://www.philmonsour.com/philmonsour_shows.html or

For the Brisbane show only, Jon will join me on the djembe and Graham on the acoustic guitar for a new acoustic trio experiment. I am currently negotiating with the backing singers in the hope they may join me on the night. Other upcoming shows include one in Cairns at Crate59 on the 19th of September. More details soon. Please forward this information to anyone you think may be interested particularly anyone in the locations above. Other news Don’t forget the new acoustic CD lies and silence available at http://www.philmonsour.com/philmonsour_recordslies.html P.S. Work continues on the live band video and (slow) progress is being made and the DVD should be ready in the near future. Phil |

Hi all,
A reminder that there is a Justice for Palestine meeting tomorrow (Wednesday July 15) at 6:30 in the TLC Building (2nd floor), 16 Peel St, South Brisbane. The main item for discussion will be the Palestinian Days Film Festival.
To prepare for the Film Festival, over the next few weeks we are aiming to sell special $50 sponsorship tickets. The tickets allow for entry to all sessions of the film festival (including the opening night). The aim is to sell the tickets early to cover the cost of hiring the cinema and raise the funds to do publicity to spread the word about the festival as far and wide as possible.
We need as many volunteers as possible to take tickets to sell. The ticket seller kits will be available at the meeting. If you can’t make it to the meeting and would like to help out, please get in contact (email kathynew1@hotmail.com, phone 0400 720 757).
in solidarity,
Kathy

Hi folks in Australia and New Zealand,
I’m thrilled to say that a week from today I’ll be in Australia, and three weeks later I’ll be in New Zealand. The tours in both countries have shaped up brilliantly. Details below, and more details such as links to appropriate websites at http://www.davidrovics.com. You can read more about the Palestine Solidarity Tour here:
http://www.greenleft.org.au/palestine-solidarity-event.php.
Brisbane’s Phil Monsour will be joining me on stage for those shows. Many thanks to Ruth Ratcliffe and all the good folks at Green Left Weekly for making this “tour within a tour” happen, and special thanks to Jen in Wellington for doing so much to coordinate my tour of New Zealand.
Many thanks to Roger Joseph and Ruth Birnie for organizing my work permits! (There are many others I could thank, such as all the good people in each town or city who have taken the time to organize one of the concerts listed below, but that’d take up too much space and you wouldn’t read it… But you know you are…)
Please be encouraged to spread the word! Word of mouth is definitely the main way most people will hear about these gigs… Of course if anybody has any good contacts with national media feel free to put us in touch! But otherwise if you could call a few friends and tell them about a show near you that’d be fantastic. I’d appreciate it immensely, and hopefully they would too…!
By the way, at the end of my last (first) tour of New Zealand with Alistair Hulett I lost my email list which I had managed to keep track of up til then, so whoever signed my email list was lost to me… Oops.
See you on the road and in the streets!
David

Hi all,
There is a Justice for Palestine meeting this Wednesday (July 22) at the TLC Building (2nd floor), 16 Peel St, South Brisbane.
Also, don’t forget to get in contact if you would like to help sell the sponsorship tickets for the Palestinian Days Film Festival.
in solidarity,
Kathy
And from Mervyn…
Mates,
Next Tuesday, 28th July (2009), is exactly 6 months since the commencement of the “Cast Lead” Israel genocide in Gaza.
This should be noted with a public protest – should we immediately apply for a permit for Radcliffe Place and a march?
I’m not trying to pre-empt the J4P meeting this Wednesday.
I can’t be there (this wednesday).
If the meeting wants to take it up, great.
I don’t have any pre-conceived ideas on whether it should be a robust and vocal protest with street march, or a quieter more somber gathering. I thought the last night-time march was very effective.
Comments would be welcome.
Mervyn

PALESTINE SOLIDARITY TOUR
featuring renowned US singer/songwriter, David Rovics
with special guest, Phil Monsour
Saturday August 8, 7pm
Ahimsa House, Horan St, West End
Hi All,
Welcome to the new people who have joined the list at shows during the recent Palestine Solidarity Tour.
Thanks to the great audiences and the wonderful organisers of these events, particularly Ruth Ratcliffe from the Green Left weekly. Thanks to David Rovics for the opportunity and the inspirational performances and songs. David and I counted 7 songs that we have written, that share the same title and many others that share common themes.
A number of people at the concerts inquired about the video images that I project while performing, so I have put What tomorrow will bring and We will go home up on my Youtube channel.
The Empires new clothes clip was put up earlier this year by the [Workers] Bush Telegraph. Please watch and share these with anyone who may be interested.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grjmeK2fO3A]
I hope to complete the live band DVD in September and may put some of the these videos on the DVD as bonus tracks.
You can also listen to songs from the July Live and Local broadcast of the band at 4zzz in Brisbane on MySpace.
I selected two songs from this broadcast that are not on The empires new clothes CD, these are The promised Land and Fires are burning.
I will be in Cairns on the 19th of September for a gig at Crate59. Proceeds from the benefit will be sent to Union Aid Abroad’s Gaza Emergency Appeal. If you know anyone who may be interested in supporting the event please forward them the gig information. (see below)…
The $30 CD pack of ‘Lies and Silence’ and ‘The empires new clothes’ will be available on the website shop soon.
