Cuba Needs Your Help — HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORTS

Dear Australia-Cuba Friendship Society members and supporters,

Australia-Cuba Friendship Society UPDATE

HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORTS

At our last meeting we resolved to send money from our account to contribute to Hurricane relief in Cuba, once a suitable avenue was established. We have since received notification from the Cuban Consulate in Sydney about a special relief fund established by the Cuban government to coordinate the overseas monies that are being sent.

Friendship societies around Australia are rallying to the cause, and have been coordinating the sending of money to reduce bank fees, and increase security of the funds.

Sydney ACFS has found that if we send Hurricane Aid funds through APHEDA (the humanitarian aid arm of the ACTU) there is an extra benefit of attracting Australian government contributions to reconstruction in Cuba.

In the last few weeks organisations and individuals have been fundraising for this relief effort. Thanks to all our members and supporters for their generosity. We will send receipts shortly.
