On Sunday, 28th December, about 80 people came out to Jagera Hall in West End Brisbane to attend this interfaith gathering post the horrendous attack on people at Bondi Beach earlier in December 2025.
The gathering included secular Jews and opponents of the genocide in Palestine.

In times of darkness, the shared light of compassion, understanding, and communal grief shows us the way forward. Thank you to all who attended.
We ask what can be done to prevent such attacks. If we were to follow the Zionist path, it would be racist revenge and a shutting down of democratic rights of assembly by the New South Wales government.
I was honoured to speak at the Darkness to Light interfaith gathering honoring the Bondi victims and standing together in hope with our Jewish brothers and sisters.
Thank you @doykeit.magandjin and @jewishvoicesofhope for creating a safe space for the community to come together to grieve. – Binil K. Mohideen see

The truth is such attacks very difficult to prevent.

Tonight I attended the Qld Jewish Board of Deputies vigil for the victims of the Bondi Chanukah attack. From start to finish it was clear that this was not a safe event for anti-zionist Jews, with the Israeli flag displayed on stage and the Israeli national anthem sung to close the event. The speeches, particular from the QJBD and Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, cheapened the event with thinly veiled attacks against the Palestine protests and vowed to attack them (instead of going after the actual causes of anti-Semitic violence, being far-right extremists and neo nazis). Particularly shocking was a speech made by an Iranian citizen speaking on behalf of the far-right funded group Minority Impact, which was met with cheers instead of condemnation.
I will continue to stand up and speak out against the people that perpetrate hatred and misuse my Jewish identity in the name of their extreme violence. Matilda, the innocent 10 year old girl that lost her life last Sunday at Bondi, will be held in my heart with the same pain I hold Hind Rajab. I will not allow this shocking attack to be politicised and I will continue to say Not In My Name. – Edward Carroll, 29 December 2025.
