Shrabani Choudhury is a distinguished Sitar player from the Vishnupur Gharana school of performance based in West Bengal, learning from highly regarded masters of the instrument, and giving her first widely acclaimed solo performance at the age of 15. Since then she has performed regularly and is also a music teacher who still possesses a keen passion for further learning.

Shrabani has performed in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney for over 20 years, playing in various Swaramohini concerts, BEMAC’s Cultivart series, the Queensland Multicultural Music Festival, Queensland Sacred Music Festivals, Music by the Sea, the Brisbane River Festival and Chanel Nine’s ‘The Shak’, a nationally broadcast programme.

The classical music that Shrabani Choudhury plays comes from the heart and soul, filling the audience with a sense of peace, joy and happiness.

Jumping Fences’ songs traverse working lives, migration and exile, and everyday hopes and joys. Their long association with Latin American music resonates deeply in their own compositions. They toured internationally to Cuba in 2017 and 2018, and nationally they have performed at numerous festivals and venues in South-East Queensland and Victoria. They have composed songs for choirs and conducted workplace songwriting and performance projects in association with the Qld Council of Unions. They have released five recordings, most recently ‘Satellites’. You can listen to a selection of songs on Spotify
