Sue and Lachlan – Jumping Fences
The Combined Unions Choir

The Brisbane Combined Unions Choir is where arts and social justice meet. They’ve been singing for 35 years and are stronger than ever!Their mission: helping ordinary singers find their voice and advancing social justice. The Choir meets Thursday evenings at Queensland Council of Unions. Whether you learn by listening, or read music, there is no audition. Come share your passion for workers’ rights and social justice and find joy singing in four part harmony.
Absolutely Scandalous

They’re back from the grave! See them before they get returned to sender! If watching politics makes you feel like slashing the nearest wrist, Absolutely Scandalous can fix it for you. Ab Scan comments, mostly satirically, on social and political issues. They have been compared to Tom Lehrer, by people who have never seen Tom Lehrer, to Weird Al Yankovic, by people who have never seen daylight, and to Tripod, by people who have never seen Ab Scan. They pursue the folk dream of telling tales about ordinary folk battling against the rich and powerful.
Jumping Fences

Jumping Fences — the hosts of Foco Nuevo — play a mix of original and Latin American songs. Centred on the song-writing partnership of Sue Monk and Lachlan Hurse, the group features Sue’s rich vocals, accompanied by nylon-stringed guitar, the colour and rhythm of Lachlan’s bass, the jazz-influenced lines of Ross Gwyther on clarinet and tenor sax, and James Harper’s drums and Latin percussion style. The band toured to Cuba in 2017 and 2018, playing at significant venues across the country. Nationally they have performed at the Queensland Multicultural Festival, Woodford, the PAVE Festival in Victoria and numerous festivals and venues in South-East Queensland. Jumping Fences have received national airplay for their single ‘I Never Sing’, and conducted a workplace songwriting and performance project –The Music Shift – in association with the Qld Council of Unions. They have released five recordings, most recently ‘Satellites’.
