Wangan and Jagalingou blockade Adani mine

We have made it abundantly clear to the world — as we have been doing for some time — that when we say no, we mean no. We put our culture before coal. – Adrian Burragubba

Last Thursday, senior cultural leader Adrian Burragubba issued Adani with an eviction notice, demanding the company cease and desist all mining and extractive activities on Wangan and Jagalingou Country. Adani didn’t comply.

So now, for two days, Wangan and Jagalingou people have shut the main road to Adani’s Carmichael Coal Mine site to protect their home lands from Adani’s irreversible destruction.

Wangan and Jagalingou people #StandingOurGround

Adani are destroying Wangan and Jagalingou culture and Country. Soon they’ll start digging the mine and damaging the water table. That’s going to drain the life out of the country and kill their dreaming.

That’s why Wangan and Jagalingou people have intervened and launched #StandingOurGround, the next phase in their fight against Adani. They are calling on all of us to stand in solidarity with them.

Here’s what you can do right now:

1. Flood social media with solidarity photos

Show your support by making a “#StandingOurGround with Wangan and Jagalingou people” sign.

Take a photo of yourself or group. Post it on your social media accounts and use the #StandingOurGround hashtag

Adrian Burragubba told the media yesterday that “As tribal warriors we will fight to defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity. We have been fighting colonisation in Wangan and Jagalingou territory since 1860. We have been fighting against Adani’s mine for 10 years, and we will continue to do so.”

Now is the time for all of us to stand with them in solidarity,
